Has anyone else had any issues with the cold? In the last two weeks I have had:

1. My intake manifold seal went bad causing a lean condition.

2. I had a brake line rupture spraying fluid all over the damn place.

3. My driver-side door handle broke off in my hand.

4. My driver side mirror broke off going through the drive through car wash when the high pressure water hit it.

5. My fuel system froze up and would not start until I spent an hour heating it up with my GF's hair dryer (and this was with Heet in the tank).

Talk about a bad turn of events, huh?

 

ouch man, this just isn't your truck's time to shine. It's not cold enough here for any of those problems. The worst I've had was a decent layer of frost on the roof of my truck. First time it's ever happened.

 

wow i havent gotten it too bad the worst ive got is my tc wont lock up till about 6-8 miles on the highway in the morning but its not as bad as what you got

 

I have never had any problems with mine and its been -1 a few mornings. The year before last it was -17 once, she sure as hell didn't like it but it started and was OK, although it never got up to temp, like 150 max.

Where are you from?

 

im glad i drive the beater and the gmc stays in the heated garage.

 

FYI: that's normal for any truck. It won't lock until the tranny gets up to 75 degrees.


HWFSTRU: How cold is it where you are having trouble?
It's been at or below zero several nights here lately.

 

It gets to -36 here and there are no problems with the truck....just start her up early and let it warm up before ya go...about 5-10 min.

 

I just had to change my intake gaskets out tonight. Did your fuel mileage drop off and did it idle at like 1700 until it warmed up while the gaskets were leaking?

 

I am in Bellevue NE and we have been seeing at or below 0 degrees on a regular basis. With the snow and sleet it has been very wet and everything is icing up, so I am sure that is the cause of the majority of the problems.

When it came to my intake gasket, I got a surge in the RPM's at idle when cold, but I don't think it ever stayed at 1700 RPM and I didn't wait very long to fix it so I am not sure about the gas mileage reduction possibility. I started getting DTC's showing lean on banks 1 and 2 and after some trouble shooting it was determined that the intake manifold gasket was the issue (shooting carb cleaner around the seal when started cold showed the weakness). I am not really sure how it up and went bad, but I guess at 70,000 miles you have to expect a thing or two to need replacement. Truck runs like a top now.

I would love to keep the truck in my garage which is heated, to avoid some of these problems, but the my GTO and my GF's GTP sit in the lap of luxory while the old work house sits out.

 

You think maybe water under the outside edge of the intake, that froze, might have caused the problem?
