Oh mama! How many miles on those cats before that happened??? ...what kind of "punishment" have they been taking?

Just 67,000 miles on the cats. I have just a N/A 4.8 with some bolt ons and a cam. An Ultra Flow muffler, and factory manifolds. It gets really hot here and when the ambient temp. started to go up (around May), things started to get shakey.

I think it was mainly the un-burnt fuel hitting them from the overlap of the cam. I've heard hot starting on is really hard on cats too. I doubt that was it, but it probably didn't help.

did you check your head gaskets after all of this. i would and do a compression test and a leak down just for previntive sakes.
