Default Cleaned my MAF....

and the truck feels like it is running stronger than I remember it running for awhile. Highly recommend any other high mileage truckers do the same. I went to Checker and got some Electronic parts cleaner, no residue, and sprayed the MAF down really well inside, was about $5 I think. I need to make another 1/4 mile pass and see where I'm at with the new mods I have since my last time at the track.

Good, I think I need to do that with mine as well. I might have some oil build up with the K&N

I cleaned mine also when I removed my K&N FIPK and installed the new Volant...may have something to do with why I thought I felt a performance increase...

So is it a myth that cleaning the MAF with anything but air might damage the little wire sensors? Because I'd really like to clean off the oil residue from before I installed a blow by catch tank.

You can clean your MAF with electronic contact cleaner that does not leave a residue and will not harm plastic. Read the label on the spray can to be sure.

The blow-by from your engine does not go through the MAF. It works by vacuum and goes directly into the intake manifold. If there is oil on your MAF it is oil from filters like the K&N which have filter oil srayed directly on them. If they are oiled too heavily the oil can come off when the air passes through them and get deposited on the MAF. The oil gets burned onto the wires in the MAF by the heat in the wires and the oil residue reduces the ability of the sensor to read changes in air volumn or density. This can cause the A/F ratio to go a little lean and cause the engine to perform poorly and affect the shifting of the transmission as well.

Exactly what he said. Hopefully you're not like me and get 85,000 miles on it before you clean it-used to almost die on takeoff.

Default The Paper filtered Ones Get Dirty Too.

I had the air tube off while doing an e-fan conversion on a 04 2500 HD 6.0 CC 4X4. I looked at the MAF elements and they were black @ 40k. The truck has the OE filter. She's clean now.
