Default chip and programmer?

hey guys i have a ASD chip (thats what the sticker says) and its mounted under the hood. my truck is a 1996 rcsb 5 speed, and if i wanted to run a programmer like hypertech or maybe granatelli would i have to take off the chip to use the programmer, or could i just plug the programmer in and tune it with the chip still on the truck? any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would probably remove the chip that it has. I did a search and found nothing on "ASD". A programmer in conjunction with the "module" would probably not hurt anything as long as you used it for tire sizes or gear change features, but I would remove it just to be safe. For a hand-held look into the VHP or Crane tuner. They tune for specific cams and have more features than most tuners.
