I used 5/16, but had to grind a flat spot in the drivers side before it would even think about sliding in. My lifters held themselves up for a couple hours while I went on a parts run, but I had to use the rods for extra insurance!

Would 1/4" work on the drivers side?

I Never Used This Rod You'll Are Talking About, never Seen It Done, also Never Seen The Need For A Longer Bolt Either And A Good Impack Will Get The Bolt Off And Back On That Is All We Use At Work And All The Motors We Work Onnever Uesd Silicone After The Gasket Are Reuseable Unless You Would Have 100k Miles Are So
8mm Socket
15/16 Impack Socket
Pully Puller
Spring Compresser Tool Pen Magnet And Greese Also Helps To Keep The Keepers For Falling
10mm Socket
Hose To Compress The Cyl.so Valve Don't Fall

Yea, I had planned on reusing the gaskets, but not sure. I have right at 100K on the motor. I dont have my compressor hooked up yet, so air tools are out of the question, unless I find somewhere else to do the swap.

I would not re-use gaskets that old.

Get new ones, gaskets are cheap insurance. SDPC---> has a cheap kit. I was too impatient for the air method. After using air for 2 cylinders, I just hit TDC on each and got it done twice as fast.
