Default Cast iron heads vs. 317 aluminum heads

Hey,

I was thinking about swapping my cast iron heads on my 6.0 for the 317 aluminum heads. Would any year 317's be a direct bolt on? What's the difference between the two? Is there any reason other than weight reduction to swap to 317's? Does anybody have any specs on these? I saw it on here once before, but I can't find it now. How much of a weight difference would it be? Thanks for your help. Tim.

I don't know what the weight difference is, but from what I have seen on here they are the same casting, just one is iron and the other is aluminum.

basically your just comparing the metals, and iron heads just dont cut it in my thoughts. They hold so much heat is their thing, and another is the weight of them suckers! Just get some aluminum heads and before you put them on atleast get em milled and thinner gasket. Two pluses here saving weight over the nose and loosing the heat factories

Yes, from what i understand an aluminum head dissipates heat so much more efficiently that they will allow for more advance without detonation.
