Default Can you test lifters?

I have a set of the comp performance lifters and was wondering if there is nay way to test them before I put them in my new 6L. I had some vlavetrain issues when I had everything in the 5.3 and just want to make sure the lifters are all good but I dont have a clue how to test them. The 5.3 will be torn down in a week or two so i would like to know how to do this. I will test them with a screw driver or something to make sure the spring is still good in them. Do the comp high performance lifters have any kind of break in? It didnt come with any literature sayign they needed to broke in. I posted this in the internal engine section but didnt get any response so I figured with the larger amount of traffic in this section I might get a better response.

I'm curious about this too...bump for you!

(Did you get the Comp factory replacements or the Comp R's, and are they supposed to hold up well for a daily driver?)

I got the comp performance replacement ones not the R's cause they are a bitch to set and also cost like 400 bucks.

I've just soaked my hyd. lifters in a coffee can of motor oil for a few hours. It just allows the oil to seep into all the nooks and crannies of the plunger. I wouldn't use a screw driver to test them. It might mess up and scratch the pushrod cup, inhibiting oil flow. Just take a push rod and push on the plunger. They shouldn't be too stiff without any oil in them. You might want to use some break in lube when you put the cam in, but it's not really necessary with roller cams. Just don't put them in dry.

The Comp R's arent a great idea anyway. They are troublesome lifters. The Morels are a better lifter.

Just soak them in oil. Or put them in and pour oil all over them. I did both.

Yeah I know how to install them I just want to make sure when I put my new engine all back together that the lifters are good. When I installed the cam and I just put some Kendall oil all over it and shoved it in there. I just stuck the lifters in the trays with some oil on the roller and bolted them down. Comp R lifters are POS's IMO they are more trouble than they are worth. I just went with comp lifters cause they were half as much as the factorys and were "performance" whatever that means. Yeah using a pushrod would be a better idea to test the spring. Ill soak them in oil this time before I put them in the new ci motor.
