Can someone help me? Performance upgrades.
#1
Once again I am coming to you guys for advice.
This is for my friends 04 4.8 regency.
He is looking for more HP/tq from his truck.
He has a bone stock motor with dual flowmasters dumped and a k&n intake. With a programer( unsure which model)
He has 1500-2000 to spend.
What would be the best way to go about buying Upgrades for his truck.
I've told him to go with a OST ( open source tune) over the programmer.
At least in the Subaru world we get a lot better results with a OST than a hand held map.
Could anyone recommend Any performance products?
Thanks in advance

1. get rid of Flowmaster, get Magnaflow or Corsa
2. corvette servo ($20 from Oregon Transmission)--best $20 I ever spent
3. get a good tune from our sponsors such as Wheatley, Nelson or BlackBear(handhelds are a joke) $250ish
4. Long Tube Headers(ebay OBX type $300)
5. gears & trutrac (sponsor: Ron's Machining Service approx $600)
6. higher stall converter(sponsor Circle D $395)
7. cam(Thunder Racing, Texas Speed & Performance, Scoggin Dickey, $600ish for cam, springs, pushrods)
(if you do 4,5,6,& 7 do the tune afterwards)
2,5,6 aren't going to increase HP/TQ, but will help get better use out of what's there.
OR
do a 6.0 swap
Then start saving for built 4L60E
If you or he can do the work, will have more money for mods since he won't have to pay someone for labor.

Great list. I have been looking around on Texas-speed. We can tackle everything but the cam. It's been three years since I've rebuilt a motor did head work etc. I'll look on ls1tech for a install guide or find a local member to pay to help us.
Thank you for the list of parts/prices. We will
Look through it and decide which route he wants to take.
EDIT- he just called and said he will consider trading his truck in for a Silverado SS For a better platform to build on. Which SS' are AWD 02-05? He is looking for a RWD SS

Don't be afraid, I think my 9 year old little girl could do it if she followed that how to(if she had the strength). More than 2 people is just gonna be moral support or 1 or 2 people in the way, unless 1 of them has some guns for the strength.
I'd look for a VHO, option code B4V. Basically an SS without all the cladding

I work at a local gmc dealership and i have seen 2 yukon denalis a 2 silvy ss traded in because the owner were tired of the front diffs making too much noise.i test drove them and sounded ok to me,but then again i drive awd dsm' s (subie killers) any way they just get shipped not put on the used car lot.
