I should have posted this thread earlier asking before I posted a WTB ad over in the classifieds. What I'm wondering is if a muffler off a silverado SS pickup will go inline and replace my stock muffler that's on my RCSB 2wd truck with the 4.8? I was thinking the SS muffler would be a good swap out for the stock muffler. All I'm looking for is an increase in exhaust tone "snort" and notihng else. With everyone talking about exhaust drone around here on their trucks I figure the factory setup would be a wise choice. Nice and quiet yet but when you get on it, at least it'll have a bit of a snort. It's hard to find pictures of a SS muffler but isn't it a 2 in and 1 out? If that's the case, it won't work very well with my truck will it?

You know what? I'm wondering if I'm just better off getting a full SS exhaust system and then cut out the excess length and piece everything together to make it fit my shorter truck? Then I'd have all stainless steel piping..........

I was just looking at 04blackgmc's thread and it looks like he put it just fine on his regcab long box. Looks real nice too. I stole his pic of the piece of pipe he fabbed up that goes from one single pipe and splits into 2 right before the muffler. I think I need to hunt down an entire exhaust system now rather than just the muffler and tip. That way I can keep all the stainless steel piping.. Now to find one local here in MN or the midwest so that shipping won't be an arm and a leg.........

That is exactly what I have. I got a freebie, almost new, SS exhaust at a local muffler shop. They cut the inlet pipes off right before the muffer. They then bent up a couple of short connector pipes to connect the stock exhaust to the SS exhaust.

If you want to install the SS system from the maniflds back on a 5.3 truck you have to consider one of the manifolds, that being the passenger side, on the 5.3 is different from the drivers side. Both of the 6.0 manifolds are the same as the drivers side of the 5.3. The odd ball being the passenger side on the 5.3 is a ball & socket type of connection as opposed to the 6.0's copper o-ring seal or gasket.
I put an SS system on my 03. I cut the y-pipe and reshaped one of the D shaped pipes so to weld them to the SS inlets. I did not want to do the OE Y-pipe into another Y-pipe into the SS muffler. sound was real mellow and no in cab resonance. You could tell there was a defference from in the cab. It seemed to run out better too.
No I believe the 6.0 HD trucks and Tahoes\Yukons have the same system. The same size 2 inlet 1 outlet muffler with the fake y-pipe exiting.
Perhaps the Tahoes with 5.3's have a different manifold connection.
Anyway, the muffler does flow about 200 CFM better than the trucks.
