Default Can I make my '05 go???

I've griped about my 2005 5.3L HO before. Its in a ECSB 4x4.
Looking at either a tune or trading the truck for a different brand (Tundra or Dodge diesel).

My questions about a performance tune:

1. Can a 5.3L produce low end torque? I cant chirp the tires at all on dry pavement and it is very slow from a dead stop until it gets moving. My friend drives an 02 5.4L ford and rightly complains about the takeoff of my truck. Thats embarassing, and rediculus since mine has 4.10 gears while his has 3.55 or what ever ford has thats a little higher than 3.73.

2. Can I eliminate the inconsistancy of the tranny. It is quite fond of teasing me with a downshift imediately followed by an upshift and poor acceleration. Its all quite violent too.

3. Reliability - tranny. I dont race my truck. But I like to be confident when pulling up to fords. I like to smoke the tires when I want. I have had neither since getting this truck. My old 350 fit the bill nicely, and the tranny lasted until 150K miles. If the tune can get power from the truck, how will the rest of the drive train hold up?

Thanks,

Mike

Whoooooa now don't trade. Get a tune and a few mods. My Z runs solid 15's with over 100K on the odo. Do some of the free mods, and bolt ons and it should wake up a little. A tune would help ALOT. do that first (before you trade for sure) you can deff. be happy in your truck. Good luck

How does it drive everyday, around town, in traffic, when you loose your temper, etc.?

Mine doesnt run bad if the tranny shifts right and you are already moving so the motor can spin prety quick.

I might just have it painted. My old trucks were white, I strayed and got silver this time!

i'd recomend starting off with a better converter and good shift kit. combine that with a well tuned pcm and you'll have most of your issue's iron'd out.

Mine drives great everyday. I have 3.73's though. If you have 3.42's it makes a difference. From a stop or a roll, mine always has power. I noticed a big sotp difference with the LS1 fans. I havent done my shift kit or tq converter yet. But I'm thinking it will wake it up a lot more when I do that. Look at my mods. Mine is pretty much stock.

I was thinking the tqm might have alot to do with my problems. I have 4.10 gears thats why I was amazed at the lack of bottom end. I expected to be able to do wear the back tires out. It blows my mind that all this has to be done to get a new truck not to runlike a turd.

I beet a hemi QC from 60-100 three times and I pulled away fairly strong . I think from a stop he would be even or jump out a little & I wouldn't pull on him till 3500 in second . not huge but enough for now
Go buy hptuners.
I've been bumping timing a little on regluar and sotp has gotten better even know the air temps are 20 degrees warmer .

Next thorleys, trailblazer converter, no cats and magnaflow .

I'm pleased with my truck's performance. The tune/exhaust/cai made a big difference. My truck will churp the tires rolling about 25mph and going WOT from stopped it will spin about 5 feet. However, It will not power brake good. I've heard other people with 05 model trucks say this is due to the rear drum brakes holding alot better than the previous rear disk brakes (makes me want to put a line lock). I think if you get rid of the tqm it will help. A converter make a big difference also.
