I highly doubt it. I have no hard facts on the L33 block, but going off the other aluminum blocks (LS1 and LS2) I would expect them to have not much extra material in the sleeves. Those others two can take a good hone but nothing more than .010 I think. Its very unlikely the 5.3 motor would be any different.

I have heard you can only take an iron 5.3 to a 5.7 (3.905). I don't know if it the same for the L33.

I found the answer. after this year the 5.3 aluminum block will be the direct replace ment for the 5.3 or 5.7. the block has 5.3/5.7 stamped right on it. the liners are huge.
and will allow for stock ls1 3.905 bore size. now i can't wait for this motor to show up.
12's here I come.

Im pretty sure that you cannot bore the l33 to 4.0. The book "how to build High performance ls1/ls6 V-8s" If it is an aluminum block then you have cast iron liners which are very thin (about 0.100" thick to be picky). The stock 5.3 bore is 3.779". In the book it says cast iron 5.3 are the best candidate for overbore applications. They can be easily bored over to 3.893" the bore size of a 5.7. Doing the math with the aluminum block doesnt even add up to 5.7 liter bore size. You might be able to get new cast iron sleeves for the block. Im not sure about this.
