Default cam and tune

i just ordered a ls1 hot cam and the ls1edit so the task will begin any hint for the cam install and tune will be greatly apreacated what is the best thing to compress the valve springs to remove them, also i heard on ls1 you can remove the push rods and rotate the cam over like 2 times and the lifters will stay up so you dont have to remove the heads if this is true or not please let me know

thanks

From what I understand, this is true MOST of the time. However, some engines with lots of miles on them have enough wear that some lifters won't hold in place. There's also a tool available that will keep the lifters up and out of the way.

This is correct on the lifters. There is a tray that keeps them from rotating and will hold them up when you remove the pushrods and rotate a few times. Good stuff, you don't even need to remove the intake anymore!
I think SLP and Comp cams makes a nice tool to remove the springs with the heads in place.
Overall, check out www.ls1howto.com as it has excellent pics and procedures on just about every motor task there is.
Good luck, have fun, let us know how things turn out!

I made my own valve spring compressor
and allthread to press the pulley on "see atatchment"

I also used rod wrapped lengthwise with velcro
to make sure the lifters stayed up

all worked like magic

I read an article the other day where they had installed the Hot Cam on an LS1. It showed great HP & Torgue gain on the low end and high end of the rpm range. In the middle range, it actually showed a slight loss of both, but not enough to be concerned about. I can't remember the numbers, but something crazy like 30+ hp and 30+ ft/lbs mostly on the top end comes to mind. (Don't hold me to those.) I have heard good things about this cam. I believe there is a thread or two posted by the f-body guys in their forums.

This is one of the cams I am considering for my 6.0. I wonder how much this thing will lope?

MOST of the gaskets are the same as the 5.7L motor. the only difference I found was the intake manifold gaskets and the head gaskets. SDPC -----------> has a cam and cam/head gasket kit that does include the pulley bolt. Most are reusable but better safe than sorry.
