Default cam/timing chain help

quick question before i install my comp 216/220 cam,

do you think its worth it to install a double roller timing chain and advance the cam a little more, i think it has 2* already, what would be the benefits of doing say another 2 or 4

what i was thinking of doing is not shifting more than 6150 and i heard that advancing the cam will get some more grunt down low. plus make it peak lower than its advertised,

can anyonw shead some more light on this for me if i'm wrong

thanks.

I would leave it like it is if it were me. I'm not a cam guru though, you might hit up the 'Cam God' for help though.

LMAO ... Cam God

But seriously .. I would leave the can at standard advance. If you have over 60k miles on your truck, I would replace the timing chain, with whatever your preference is.

Theoretically it should work just how you stated Daniel since everything will happen sooner by advancing the timing and thus will move the power band lower on the rpm range. From my understanding, for every 1* of adv/ret, it moves the power band by 50 or so in the rpm range at the expense of the opposite end. Another thing to take into account is if I am not mistaken these cam already have a ground in advance. I just don’t know how much. Since you want to shift right about 6150 rpm, I assume you want your peak to at about 5750-5850rpm. I came across this but I don’t know how accurate it is.

Big Tex, what do you think about this?

I did the pump and double Rollmaster when I did the cam. It's not that much more work or money to do while you have the cover off. You have to pull the pump to install the double chain because the sprocket must be changed so you might as swap the pump at that time if you have the extra money. My idle pressure went up to 60 after the install. The Rollmaster is a beefy unit so if you plan to run you engine hard it's a wise investment. Be sure to watch the spacer that goes on the output port side of the pump so the holes line up.
