Default Cam Install Questions 02' 5.3l

Ok have a few questions about installing a comp cam in my 02 silverado 5.3l- Cam is the Comp XR265HR- Motor has 82K miles.

1. Will I need a new timing set from Comp so I can degree the cam?
2. Is it even necassary to degree the cam? Will stock timing gears/chain work?
3. Will comp 918's work with stock retainers? If not is there any significant difference between Comps steel retainers vs there titanium besides weight?
4. Oil pump- Should I replace? Still has 45psi at idle warm and over 60psi while driving.
5. Lifters? Stock ones ok or should I go LS7?
6. Other than pushrods anything else I should address while Im in there?
Any thoughts will be greatly appreciatted, Thanks-

1. No, with 82k I'd look into a regular GM timing chain.
2. No. yes.
3. Yes, but LS6 springs will do and only cost $50
4. Ported LS6 pumps are cheap (120~ I think), but I'm sure the stock pump is fine.
5. Stock lifters are good and will work great.
6. I got water pump gaskets for cheap insurance, but all gaskets are reusable minus head gaskets.

i'd go ahead and replace the water pump gaskets...chances are their gonna leak soon anyway with the mileage, might as well replace em their only $5.

Just make sure you align the cam/crank gears before you pull the chain off...makes it alot easier for alligning them when putting it back on.

other than that, lmseven answered everything.

1. This should be replaced while your in there. I went with N-Motions timing set.
2. All you have to do is align the timing marks.
3. 918's are good to 625 lift now. Make sure they are the new one out and not the ones with the blue stripe.
4. If your going to do a timing set then you will have to take the oil pump off. This is up to you but it is a good time to replace it IMO.
5. Lifters will be fine. The lifters are under the heads and can only be replace by removing the heads. So they are fine.
6. Just get yourself a nice set of 7.4 hardened pushrods from wherever you purchase the other parts from.

SDPC is a sponser---> and they will have everything you need for this install.

Also get yourself a nice spring compressor. This will make the spring install fast and easy. You will also need someway of appling air to the cylinders to hold the valves up. Get yourself two 5/16 wooden dowels to hold the lifters up and a few extra valve locks. Other than that this should cover it. There is some good info on how to do all this on LS1howto.com

Cam specs are 212in/215/ex -.558in/.563ex on a 115lsa
Plan on replacing the heads as while installing my headers the rear most bolt on the driver bank broke of in the head. Have a spare set of 862 casting heads with low miles that Im gonna throw on. Going to have them milled but am waiting to measure the base circle of the cam compared to stock so I can figure out the pushrod length. Going for 10.1 or so compression. And alot easier to do the springs on a bench instead of fighting them while on the motor-
