Default Cam install difficulty

I was curious about how hard and what all is involved in putting a cam in my 5.3. Could I do it myself in my driveway. Any help will be very appreciated.

Key is the right tools. Suggest ls1howto.com for good write up on how to. Good balancer puller, pen magnets or 5/16 rods, longer crank pulley bolt and new crank pulley bolt. Good means to lock the engine while torquing the crank pulley bolt. Chances are you will need to install new valve springs and or pushrods with bigger cam. This requires good valve spring compressor, recommend the crane unit, and some way to lock the valves in place while changing out the springs. I used compressed air. You can rotate the engine around and have the piston for the the bore you are working on at TDC. Its a pretty involved undertaking. Took me and a buddy about 8 hours to do.

I will be doing mine in about a month or so. You could ride over and check it out. This will be the first time for me too, but I'm having a friend helping that has done a few. What cam are you going with?

a good impact will take care of the engine lock tool. three jaw puller 25.00-torque wrench-mine is a matco but there are cheaper ones- and a crank pulley installer-25.00. i have used the pen magnets.

you can go to the local fastener warehouse
ex automotive fasteners here
and get a piece of all thread rod and a nut
to press the pulley back on enough to get the pulley bolt started good

btw
its metric
also its not hard to make your on v spring compressor
