'01 6.0 Sierra. Not any kind of a hotrod project. Would like to try for better highway mileage. Currently in need of repair for sticky lifter. As new cam and lifters go in soon, does anybody have any suggestions for a low performance "mileage minded" shaft ?? Heard from another source that a stocker for 5.3 or 4.8 might be a good choice. Any ideas appreciated.

 

look into the small comp cams for these gen III motors

 

The cam I have gave me a nice kick and I got to keep my 19 mpg for as long as I had my 3.73 gears. Not bad for a 6,000 lb vehicle.

 

Wouldn't something with a small overlap help? I mean the big reason for increasing overlap N/A is to allow more time for air to enter and exit at high rpm no? It's late so please excuse me if my mind is not right. I just watched Napoleon Dynamite and I am stuck on stupid mode. LOL

 

Yeah, "top of the page" cams SHOULD do that. Smaller durations, wider LSA's. You basically want a low amount of overlap.

VHP/Crane make a few that should... Lingenfelter... or a custom grind.
