Welcome to the board.

There should be pleny of information archived in the board you can search for but here's some basic stuff to get you started.

If you are talking swaping heads and cam from a LS1(5.7L) to a LM7(5.3L) you will loose torque and the power gains you will achieve will be negligable. The 5.3 has a dished piston from factory and a smaller combustion chamber in the heads. Swaping an LS1 cam will first off provide little gains as the profile is very similar and secondly will shift you powerband too high. Swaping LS1 heads will enlarge your CC size and further reduce power by droping the already low 9.5:1 compression to 9.1-9.0 dependant on what head gasket you use. The LS6(Z06)head would be your best choice to maintain reasonable compression and gain some HP in port desgin.

The LS1 uses a different injector. A straight swap would be the 6.0 injectors or the 8.1L injectors. You do have one benefit stock over the the LS1/LS6 and that is you have a bypassing fuel system with an externally adjustable regulator. Stock I don't believe you stand to gain any power as the trucks tend to run a bit rich anyway. Once you start delpleating yourself of any further bolt-on options or choose to go FI, N2O or heads and cam, injectors will need to become part of your equation.

After Valley Head Service finished the stage II work, decking, new valves, springs and retainers I should see at least a good 50HP. With the new cam and more displacement more along the lines of 100.

Hey oxidizr, how much did you deck the LS6 heads? What is the new est. compression ratio if you know? How big are the valves? and how much were the heads with all of the work done to them (with core)? sorry for all the q's, I just really want to do an LS6 head swap on my 5.3 also.

Heads were decked .045" The compression will be in the High 10's maybe 11's dependant on what piston I select for the 6.0L. The head work is fairly extensive (stageII) and includes CC resizing for the new bore, machine work for the 987 dual springs and 2.02/1.60 valves. The porting/machine work was 2K + the LS6 heads.
