Default cam good/bad

is a cam in a mostely stock motor worth it? is this a good cam #1449505 made by crane cams? i also looked at the comp cams #XR259HR which one would be best.Would it be necisary to due major tuning ? what horsepower increase would i see? Sorry so many questions. if anyone is running either one of these sepups i would like to see some dyno number and possibly 1/4 mile times.

I think the smaller the cam, the more compatible it is with a stock motor. This is the same tuning wise too. The smaller, the less tuning you need to do.

I think just about any cam will make more power than the stock cam, even in a stock motor. The thing is the bigger you go, the higher up (and stronger) the meat of the powerband will be.

I'm not sure about the "common" specs on that Crane cam you listed... but I think if you keep it under something like 206/212 in a 5.3 you will have a near stock powerband that's stronger just about everywhere.

With your turbo coming, the less overlap the cam has, the better. (to an extent of course). I'm not familiar with F/I cams other than that little tidbit, so someone else will have to chime in on that...

My truck ran 14.5 at 92 with a 2.13 '60 with my mods below...
