Cam or Fans
#52
For anyone wondering what the "2 pin" is, it lets the PCM control the fans based on temp rather than A/C settings and shuts them off over 45mph, iirc. Here is a thread about it: https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=432250

I use the Blackbear 2 pin harness: http://www.blackbearperformance.com/

White1- the only reason I say fans first is because of the price and the fact that they do net gains-even if small-it's still worth it.
Cam is lot more money- and sounds like he doesn't have a lot sitting around. Fans are like what, 100 bucks tops? I bought my harness and fans together for 100.
I don't understand why you're making such a big deal of my recommendation. I already stated I haven't done a cam swap yet. Next time would you like me to lie and say I have?
And like earlier stated, if money is so tight that you can't get a set of 100-150 dollar fans to support your cam swap-you need a new hobby.
No harm meant, no harm taken!

I took it as he could afford either. A cam can be done for about $300 + fluids. $250 for a used cam and $50 for some yellow ls6 springs. My fans were $100 and this time I bought a harness for $100. So to me $200 for freeing up 10-15hp vs $300 for making 25-40hp, Id spend the extra.
I defiantly recommend the fans!! I think they are a great mod, but given the choice, Id recommend the cam over the fans.
I figured if he was giving the option, he was aware of the expense.

IMO you can't go wrong with either, both have advantages.. The fans: colder AC (mucho important in texas) and eliminates that damn SWOOOOSH sound from the clutch fan and helps with throttle response.... The cam: helps with HP, sounds cool, and is all together better... Eventually you will get both, just decide which is more important...

Well...if you do the fans first, it will make it easier when you do the cam since the clutch fan will already be off lol
I still say, cam first (hot rodder must have), then fans (nice mod, but not necessary). FWIW, my baby cam with tuning was good for a 9/10th and 8mph improvement in the quarter mile, but my efans didn't do diddly for me, except for slightly better throttle response and quicker revving. As far as fan choice, I like the 05 fans and 34" radiator that I'm running, but the price goes up when you chose that route over the LS1 fans that I'm assuming everyone is referring to when they mention the fans as being a $100 mod. I think that my fans alone were $200 to $250 when I bought them over 5+ years ago, then you need a radiator, harness, coolant, and tuning of course. My efan setup was $500+ IIRC...
