I just did mine this weekend and this was my first LS1. I am used to the old sbc engines and this was very different. But it isnt bad at all, $400 is still a lot of money. Go on LS1howto.com. On the right hand side there is a link that says "f-body heads/cam swap". I followed that step by step. There are a few things that are different, like the condensor doesnt have to be removed, and other stuff like that. Just take your time with it. A rushed job usually ends in disaster. Don't be afraid to get a ride to school if it's not gonna be done it time.

I am having trouble deciding if i should have my cam installed or should i do it myself. My tuner will get me a custom grind comp cam, springs, pushrods, install, and HPT with dyno for around $1000. $400 out that is just for labor for installing the cam. So my question is should i do the cam swap myself and just have him tune it or is it to much of a headache to deal with?
cam-400
springs-~100
rods-90
tune-400
you would be crazy not to just pay them to do it.

That's a hell of a deal if you look at it the dyno tune $400 it's self then $400 labor thats $800 already then the rest of parts you can't loose with that deal.. you don't wanna know what I paid... I wish I had that deal when I did mine...

the dyno is $300 and hes going to get deals for the cam, rods, and springs. like $300 for all of it..

..***** the cam V6 swap would be so much better
