If it is a 87+, what kind of injection do u plan on using? I'm hoping multiport. Idk about multiport, but for tbi and LT4 hotcam is supposed to do pretty nice in them.

if i can get the money i would like to use the injection from the 93-97 camaro if not just the TPI injection that it came w/. from what i'm told it was throttle body injected so i'm not quite sure what to go w/. hopefully the fact of it having a throttle body can help someone determine what year range it is.

It's more than likely an '87+.........Good luck with getn ne decent power from it if it's a TBI. TBI S U C K S when it comes to making good power, unless u got deep pockets. Thats one of the reasons I didn't do anything to the motor in my bird other than an intake. Your better off goin carb if u want more than 250 or so horses.

There's a reason you can get a 305 for next to nothing...it's not really a desirable engine, especially when you can get a 350 so cheaply, or with some more cash, build a 383. If I was going with an older gen SBC, I'd build a 400 block to 406 myself. Every car that I've ever had with a 305 (or 307 for that matter...early 70's chevy), has been pulled in lieu of a 350 and I basically just took the 305 block staight to the scrap yard. On my last MonteSS, the 305 block was perfect, but I still pulled it for a 345hp ZZx crate engine...I was so much happier. The extra cubes really respond well to the numerous cam and head combos out there...Edelbrock has set-ups that include cam, heads, carb, etc, all matched.

yea i feel ya on that. i would love to build a 400sbc but buying the blocks are out rageous. the price that i will have to pay for the block and a few parts to go along w/ it will be nothing of what i would have to pay for just a 350 block along. that's why i'm looking into this 305 block. and on top of that it will be a fun project for me.

Do NOT do TBI. I'm not saying that people haven't done well with it (on thirdgen.org, a third gen F-body site, TBI has quite a following), but TBI owners go through a LOT of headaches to get their results. You would do much better with a TPI multi-port from '87-'92.

The '93-'97 you mention would be an LT1 intake swap, drilled/modified for use with a distributor. Several of the thirdgen.org members have done well with that swap using stuff they've modified themselves, or parts from lt1intakes.com (used to be owned by John Milican, but I think he sold out to another member there). Unless you have some nice fab skills, stick with a prepepd intake from that site.
