lol, this question seems to be coming up more often, when you recive your car the odo may read 6 miles or something but every motor has more than that on it, theyre already broken in from the factory, that break in time is to allow gears to seat and other things like that, but as far as the motor its already ran at the plant and checked for troubles.

I try to go easy for the first couple hundred but no way in hell I can keep from flooring it for long unless it is a long drive home on the freeway.

Otherwise, I drive it hard. Change the oil at 500/1000/2000 then switch to synthetic.

I don't think there is any hard rule to follow really other than the first oil change at 500 or so miles to clean out engine break in debris.

Most of the really fast stock cars/trucks I have seen were driven off the lot sidways

I don't know about the driveline, but to seat the rings in the engine in you need to drive it hard. My auto trades school teather says "drive it like you stole it".

thanks for the replies. I understand the ideas of running it moderatly hard at the beginning to seat the rings, but I would think this would work better if I drove it harder after the first or second oil change. I know the first tome I changed to oil in my bike was at 600 miles and the oil was glistening from the metal shavings. So that made me rethink running any motor WOT from the beginning. I think I will stick to the 500, 1000, 3000 (synthetic) idea progressively getting more agressive with the throttle.

I dont disagree with the schedule of changing the oil, but think of all the vehicles that people change the oil at 5000 or 7000 miles and never have any mechanical problems.
