My father-in-law used to have a '91 ECLB w/ 5.7 TBI & 5 spd. I had a hi-flow cat & custom SI/DO Magnaflow put on it w/ 3.5" tips. It had a really nice deep sound w/o being obnoxious, but then again a 5.7 TBI has a deeper sound to it than LS engines do, IMHO.

 

I wanted both...and went to dynomax to save money, but get the same sound.

Im glad I did.

 

i have the xr-1's in a true dual 3" set-up with x-pipe and high flow cats and yes idle is not so loud but when you lay into it there is no doubt there is something there and i noticed it pulls so much harder up top.

 

corsa sounds the best imo but i dont think they can be made to work with a true dual setup due to their size...

 

I agree with Bill on the love/hate. I have the Xr1 as well and at idle it's quiet and I wish it was louder. I mean it doesn't purr but i'd like it louder than it is. It's probably a touch quieter than flowmaster at idle. But get into it a bit and it's just great.
cruise has a nice rumble to it. Open it up and it just screams.

I have a dynomax bullet infront of mine as a resonator. I wish I could find a good way to do audio on it. I'll see about doing some drive-by videos in a few days.

Borla gets my vote. I have had two Borla cat back systems, one on my 89 Silverado and one on my 03 Silverado and they sound great. I have a Magnaflow system now and I like it but I miss the sound of the Borla. Definitely has a deeper smoother sound than my Magnaflow.

 

I did a drive by video today at 50, WOT, and 35. getting some video editing software so I can cut out some waiting and get the file size down.
Might take some time, but I'll try to get it loaded ASAP.
Will be best if you have a decent speaker setup on your computer. Wana be able to have some bass

 

magnaflow 11226. pretty loud, not quite like a flowmaster, but real deep. i just put one on my 4.8, just after the cat, dumped, and it sounds great. i just have to shop the turndown that i welded on back off, because now i can't hear the exhaust in the cab at all.

 

Very interested in that 4" muffler. How does it sound? That and the magnaflow race series is the only 4" mufflers I'm aware of? I do not like the sound of magnaflow at all, not deep and muscular at all.
