i know the lt's are the way to go, but whats the best bang for the buck shortie that bolts to the stock pipes?

Im not sure, but the good brand named ones like borla or BBK, etc.. they prolly cost around the same of the pacesetter longtubes.. just incase price is the factor in the decision, you may want to look into those.

If your dead set on not getting some bigger headers, skip the headers all together. Shorties give next to no gains. You would get more gains from something else, maybe some more muffler grease even.

98TAauto - I have a set of shorties laying around that came on my truck when I bought it. If you want them $50+shipping and they're yours. I don't even know what brand they are really but they're stainless and shorties. They are discolored all to hell too.

If you want, look at summit racing. They have a set of stainless for $170 +shipping... They say "22 hp gains" but we all know that is hard/impossible to come by w/ shorties.
