Backfiring after cam install!!!!!please help!!!!
So I got the cam in and drove it home. I noticed that it backfired once on the way home. I didn't think anything of it, maybe fuel problem and needs a tune. So the guy comes and tunes it. I start driving in and it's like it's falling on it face, just bogging down past 1/4 throttle. Now on idle its backfiring. Do you think it could be a timing issue? I made sure that the marks were perfect up and down. Do I need to degree it? Please help!!!

how certain are you that its dead on with the timing marks?
i would also think about maybe bad gas in the tank, or the tune. a very rich tune can cause this issue... also, check your fuel pressure on the rail in the engine bay.. just curious here... sounds to me like its in the tune, but i wouldnt rule out any other possibilities. how long has your tuner been tuning? |
He's been tuning a while. He has done several of my buddies trucks and cars. Very satisfied customers.

I am 100% sure that they were on when I put the cover on. I even turned the motor over to make sure. Truck ran just fine before the install. This is really frustrating. This is my DD and I can not afford this to be down very long. Any ideas???

make sure everything is plugged in. I've left spark plug wires loose before that caused this.
|
Ok. I am about to start tearing it back apart. I will start checking little stuff like that. Just hoping someone had similar problems. I checked the plug wires last night and nothing. Hoping that since I drove it with it running rich maybe fouled out a plug or something. HOPEFULLY!!!

It kinda sounds like a valve or three aren't closing completely.
|
What's the best way to check that?
|
And what can be done to fix it?
|
sounds like a damaged spark plug maybe. cracked the porcelain on a plug or 2 perhaps?
