ASP Pulley Install ? HELP!!!!
#1
I have been trying to install my ASP pulleys today and have been having a hard time removing the Harmonic Crank Balancer/Pulley on my 04 5.3 Crew Cab Z-71. What am I doing Wrong??? Is the crank bolt reverse threaded? I think the Rad. Fan is Correct?....JohnB

Are they reversed threaded? I tried to remove it with my impact and it would not budge. I then stopped because like you said, I didnot want to Mess it up...Thanks Again..JohnB

The bolt has a washer made on it that has some sort of loc-tite on the side that mates against your balancer, this is part of the reason these are so hard to break loose. Some people have bumped the starter while having a socket and breaker bar on the bolt. I was afraid to hammer to much with an impact wrench for fear of rounding the head of the bolt off. I use a large strap wrench to hold my pulley with a 3/4 drive breaker bar to break it loose. Still very tough to do.

Just don't break one of the damn tabs off when you get the bolt out. I still worry about my pulley on there with one of the tabs broken, but nothing has happened yet. *knocks on wood*

Ha ha I just did mine this morning, well the bolt any ways I have to go and buy the puller as this shithole of a town has nothing. I took my propane torch and heated up the end of the bolt about 30 secs wedged a crow bar in the balancer so she wouldn't turn, then got on there with a breaker bar and a hammer and after a couple of home run hits I was done
