Default Anyone put a 5.3 crank into a 4.8?

Just had my heads CNCed. I was told I could pickup some big gains putting my heads on a 5.3 short block, but I'd like to know if anyone has put the longer stroke crank into the 4.8 block. What other parts have to go along with the crank swap like rods, main caps and bearings?

if you were to swap the crank you'd have to swap rods, bearings would probably be fine, but i'd replace them for good measure. it would be much more economical probably to just buy a 5.3, since that's what you'd have after you swapped crank/rods.

I heard of a guy that has 5 5.3 short blocks sitting in his garage. He wants to sell them at $100 each. Don't know the history of these short blocks, but that sounds better than Ebay to me. That's the only reason I asked. With everything I've already done to my motor I wouldn't want to start over from scratch again at this point unless I could get a crank and rods at a price like that. I would of course change out the main bearings and the shells on the rods.

you would have a high compression 5.3 if you put 5.3 rods in a 4.8 with the flat top pistions correct

assuming you had the 3.62" crank as well, then yeah, you'd have a high(er) compression 5.3

I wouldn't think the rods would have to be changed but the pistons would because the compression height of the pistons are different even though the bore is the same
so you could just bead hone the cylinders and swap the rods, pistons, and crank which is the same as a ls1/6 crank. I would do new main and rod bearings too

Yes, the connecting rods are different between the 5.3 and the 4.8 to make up the difference in stroke length. The wrist pin height of the 4.8 and 5.3 pistons are the same. In fact, someone has even gone so far as to verify that the P/N's are the same for regular 4.8 pistons and the pistons in the L33 H.O. all-aluminum 5.3 engine.

After looking it up, the 5.3 rod length is 6.098" long and the 4.8 rod length is 6.276" long.
