My dads burns 1 quart every 500 miles. My grandparents burns almost 1 quart every 500 miles. I have first hand in the only 2 I have done maintanence on and drove. They both burn oil. I didnt say it was bad. ALL BB chevy burn oil. Its a proven fact. Its the nature of the beast!

All the big blocks ive messed with burn a quart or less every 1000.
Have you taken it to the dealer to complain?? chevy used to do something about it if the motor burned more than a quart every 1000 miles

Yep. According to the stealer and GM, both say its "normal". So we drive it and give it a little oil every now and then. Both trucks only have less than 5000 miles on them to. maybe it will get better as milage racks up.

They dont burn oil that bad either, that is one of those stereotypes that come from when one guy has a problem and it spreads across the internet like crazy. Yes it will burn more oil that a small block but nothing crazy.
And there is a LS1edit for them as well
My 03 Dmax has not burned a drop.It will walk the 8.1 REAL HARD in a drag race also.

So, what does the heads look like? Are they oval ports or LS1 tall style ports. What size valve do they come with. Does anyone have pictures of these heads? I would like to put one in my 86 duelly.

The 8.1 in my Suburban uses about a quart in 2500 miles and the Silverado does pretty good. I don't have to add any to that between oil changes.
I'm not aware of any parts that will cross over from the earlier big blocks. Here are some pictures of a stock 8.1 head -

Those pics show the seperate intake ports. That is what I was telling you about. The castings look pretty good and I'd like to see what Tom can get power wise with a set of ported heads on that 8.1 Silverado.

Thanks for the pictures. That is the first thing I have seen on the new Big Block. What is the valve size? I think that I might have to get one. Have you ever changed cams in the 8.1L? Do you have the specs on the stock cams? What kind of mileage are you getting? Thanks and sorry for all the question.

You dont even know what I own or what my family owns so dont think you know what you are talking about. You assumed that i have never had or dealt with an 8.1 motor, well your wrong, so why dont you go shut the hell up and try and pick a fight with someone else. You obviously got a lemon of some sort, just because you had that experience doesnt mean everyone will have the same. **EDIT**
