Did you visit VaraRam with your truck so Patrick take a look at it? I spoke with him today about this. He told me that a truck came in that had some mods done that were causing it to lose horsepower (I believe they were a catback, maybe no cats and computer tuning). He recommended backing out some of the mods to see what was throwing the computer off. This started before the VaraRam was installed on that vehicle.

I waited about a month or so to see some hard data on this kit as I was seriously considering it,however, it never came, so I ended up with the tried and true FIPK. I am like you guys, I wanna see some dyno#s on a stock 5.3 before I drop damn near $300 on something that has stiff competition out there from K&N, Volant, UPD, ect. I keep hearing all this BS 0-60 time that I cannot relate to, or test against at the track. I dont see why it would be so hard for them to make a few passes down the strip.

a good source i know tested it and gained .2 on a 5.3 truck over a stock box which was around the same as a volant with ram air tube has been getting. he did say though the quality wasn't very impressive.

There isn't to much of a bad choice when it comes to inductions but some have benefits that the others don't. The VaraRam actually costs less than some others. The non ram air version of the VaraRam is $239. while the Volant is $269.. Add $100. to the VaraRam for the complete ram air system (both of these are sealed) while an additional $139. is required for the Volant scoop (Volant has an opening in the side). I've been using Volants on my trucks for years with good results. Mileage and performance increases came from swapping over to the VR.

They probably base performance gains on 0-60 times because that's more of a real world figure for trucks. We're kind of different over here Most truck owners use their trucks like trucks and not as drag vehicles at the track. I don't know why they wouldn't want to drag them but to each his own The system benefits from cool air that is forced into the induction. A dyno can't duplicate that or the gain that is seen in the shift recovery while air is being piled into the manifold while the truck going down the street.

Its not that I am wanting to build a dragster, or that we "want" to drag our trucks. 1/4MPH is a far better estimation of HP than 0-60 times because some elements (wind resistance, ect) are not at play on 0-60 like they would be on a 1/4 mile pass.
If I could see where a truck went from running 90 in the 1/4 to 92mph then that Is something I can relate to. 0-60 times are just a poor way to measure performance. Hell, my 0-60 times are awesome on my Lt500 4-wheeler, far surpasing my Z-28, but by the 1/4 mile, the Camaro has about 25mph on the quad.
