Default another ram air topic

just went from a open element filter to a UPD setup. i was thinking about doing a home made ram air setup, but i have a few questions that didnt get answered in a search. for the guys who have done this mod i have a few questions.

1) how much crap does it suck up and how often will i need to clean the filter?

2) would it help any if i close off the air holes from the fender to keep it from letting the rammed air out?

3) has anyone tried this with pvc or something a bit more functional than dryer tube? that just dosent sound very smoothe to me...

and lastly is it even worth the hastle.

well you will have to clean the filte quiet abit it does pull in alot of **** off the road, but you can put a plug or end cap on the pipe if you dont want to use it alot. You dont have alot of room to use pvc piping close to the bottom (not saying it cant be done) but its close. you can use the alluminum type dryer hose that will hold of alot better and not dry rott away. I built a screen on mine to hold the hose in place where the fog light went on my old truck. good luck

I have a brand new never used Volant Ram air tube made for the 99-03 Silverados. If your interested in it I will sell pretty cheap. I have it in the original box, all hardware in original package (never opened), and the ram air tube and scoop (never used). Basically only the Volant box was opened.
I baught it 2 months ago for my 2000 Silverado and never installed it. I sold my 2000 Silverado 15 days after I recieved the Volant.
The Ram air scoop normally goes for $99-120. I will sell it for $45.00
Call me if your interested.
The Volant Part# 35853.
My cell# 832-250-7247

I know I'm not supposed to post here about selling items, but I just thought I could help him out.

If you're gonna be using the ram-air setup into the bottom of the airbox, I don't think you need to close the fender openings. The air from the tube will enter directly under the filter so I think the engine will be pulling strongly enough that the 'rammed' air will never make it to the fender openings. Just my 2 cents.
Oh, also, it's funny but my Volant with the ram-air tube doesn't seem to pick up a lot of incoming debris. My truck's a 4x4 so it sits a little higher but not much.
