Im about to pickup a new to me 03 Silverado SS AWD and I am so up in the air on exhaust. Exhaust is one of the first things I want to do but not sure exactly which muffler or the right way to go about achieving my goal. I like the sound of the Borla ProXS exhaust and I am thinking about either doing dumps before the axle or tips exit the side in front of the rear wheel. From what I can tell the SSSs came with true dual all the way to the muffler and then single out. Is my best option to get the 2 mufflers or a dual in/out, an xpipe, and do I just take everything to an exhaust shop? Or, can I just cut/unbolt the old muffler and clamp in my own Borla Muffler(s)?
Future mods is going to be Speed Engineering LTs with their true dual x mid pipe (cats welded in), BTR stage 2 truck cam, tune, etc with other bolt ons.
What is everyone's opinion and/or advice?

I don't like giving up my truck for that long and would rather just do it all in one fell swoop. All trucks came with a 3" pipe into one muffler, y-pipe in front. I like quiet trucks....sooo if I were to do it all over again, I would've cut the muffler out, clamped in a Magnaflow packed straight through muffler and left the resonator in the back. But really. Do it all at once....easy to say, hard to do. ha

Unless the exhaust on the truck is in bad shape I'd just save up for the Speed Engineering true duals and the LT's you mentioned. I'd recommend the over the axle duals instead of the dumps (really to loud). Your question regarding single or dual mufflers... with two mufflers vs one muffler you'll have twice the muffling capability with two. The muffler lengths will determine the loudness.
Keep in mind the Borla ProXS is a straight through design packed with acoustic materiel for sound control. After installation they'll be at their quietest, then after a few weeks/months they'll get louder after some of the packing is "broken in" (burnt/blown out). I went with a pair of MagnaFlow (12219) fourteen inch mufflers behind the SE dual kit. At first they were really quiet almost to quiet! Now they are perfect for how I want the truck to sound. If I'd have went with the dual 18" the truck would be to quiet IMO.
If you decide to go with dumps or exit in front of the right rear it's gonna be louder than with tails exiting out the rear... you may want the longer mufflers.
The Speed Engineering (Chinese) mufflers are really pretty with the polished cases but mine started rattling after six months sounding like **** lol. Just to add... the over the axle SE tailpipes will not fit with a 4/6 drop as the space is just to small, had some tailpipes made.
What ever choice you go with... do yourself a favor and buy the Torca AccuSeal clamps. The clamps that come with the Speed Engineering kit are total junk

Where do you want it on loudness? 1 being stock and 10 being straight piped.
When do you see yourself getting the headers? If its semi soon, I'd just save the money and put it to them instead because they will change the sound and make it louder as well.

I still vote, wait till you get the headers and do it once but if you just can't wait and I'd totally understand that, buy what you can reuse once you do the headers.
You most definitely can but it puts you back about $570 for the headers and X versus $380 for the headers and Y pipe versus $790 for the headers, X and mufflers. IMO I'd go the cheap route and buy a fabricated X, U bends, some straight tube and mufflers all stainless for about $600 and get exactly what you want.
