Default Another cam 5.3 question....

Hello all. Been reading a lot of cam threads and have come down to just a couple of questions.

Truck background. 05 avalanche z71 112,000 miles. Has 4.10 gearing and will be going to a 285/70r17 (33") here pretty soon. I dont do much towing and when i do ithe most i will tow is a 16' trailer with my jeep on it. Current mods tsp LT headers, ORY, and speed engineering CAI. Looking to do cam and stall.
Found from my research that I want the tsp stage 3 truck cam on a 112 lsa. Now question 1 is high lift or low lift? There is a 15 hp and 4 # torque difference between the 2 and as far as I can tell I would just have a little added cost of going to a better spring plus new pushrods. Which if I'm in there anyway I don't have a problem with the added cost as long as that's the only difference.

Question 2 is stall speed, I'm looking at the circle d https://www.circledspecialties.com/p-6-gm-278mm-hp-4l60-ls-torque-converter.aspx and don't know what stall speed to get, the 2600-2800 or 3000-3200?

Also how far can i go on factory injectors? Or what is recommended for what I'm doing?

You will run out of injector if they are 25lb/hr injectors. Upgrade to some 31lb/hr 8.1 injectors.

The 216/220 on the 600 lift does make more power and torque than the 550 lift version. It is one of the best all round cams for a 5.3 as far as usable power and torque across the entire rpm band. The stage 3 high lift will require the use of a 600 lift spring ( PAC 1218 ) and a hardened pushrod. The stage 3 will work with the factory converter but will really come to life with either of the Circle D converters. For a less aggressive stock like feel I would use the CD 2600-2800!

Pushing the factory injectors is really on the tuner. I have heard of guys getting away with head/cam 5.3s on the factory injectors, then I have heard guys completely peg the cycle duty of the factory injectors with bolt ons and a cam. If you have the mini delphi harness then the 8.1 injectors are basically a drop in, otherwise you can upgrade to LS2 injectors or flex fuel injectors from the gen IV trucks. The gen IV trucks use a USCAR ( EV6 style ) connector. The flex fuel GEN IV injectors do around 36 pounds at 58 PSI of line pressure.

Good luck with your build

Thank yall for the replies!!

After more research it appears that I got lucky on the fuel injectors. Because I have a vin z flex fuel motor I have 33lb/hr injectors.

I think I will go with the higher lift cam cause I would hate to leave that much power on the shelf for just a little more invested. And will go with the 2600-2800 stall to keep the driveabillaty moderate. Thanks again!!

I personally would not use PAC 1218 Beehives with a .600 lift cam, just cheap insurance. Your best bet is either get the TSP cam package with .660 dual Springs or get some BTR .660 Platinum Dual springs. The 216/220 can be used with a stock converter but would be best with a higher stall. I would check with Circle-D with their 300mm 2400-2600 if you wanted a cost friendly converter or their single disk 265mm 2500-2700 stall with that cam, especially in the heavier Avalanche and since you tow sometimes.

The good thing about the Cam Package from TSP is, if you wanted, you can get a Melling 10295 oil pump (which I recommend) and some pushrods.

The TSP 216/220 .600/.660 on a 112 LSA is an awesome cam and performs well.

I had no idea Slow05 was Avery, haha. You may remember me from the incident with the missing PAC Valve locks for the PRC ported 243 heads.
