Hi Guys,
I saw the diagram that 01Thunder posted and have a question. I removed the accumulator from my transmission and the way it was assembled did not match that diagram. Looking in my 2002 Chevy service manual I found a diagram that shows the accumulator assembly differently. Basically the pistons and springs are flipped around. Does anybody know when and why this assembly was changed?
Thanks,
Gene

Ok I have redrawn the above pic to point to the correct piece that needs to be swapped out for the metal part.
I hope this helps, and i appologize for any confussion that i created.

Well since you are from Jersey and so's my girl (South Orange specifically) I will try to assist ya!

It could be that GM changed something up or FUBAR'd something on your trans...but if your GM tech book shows it a certain way, I'd believe that. I don't think they'd all of a sudded change piston locations as that'd require potential trans re-working but hell GM ain't the smartest auto company around!

If it works okay, I wouldn't really mess with it. If you have the patience to take it apart and install it the opposite way you may try that... but I would get the aluminum piston in there pretty quick even if it's upside down.

Hi Guys,
What I meant was that it seems older 4L60e's had the accumulator assembled as in 01Thunder's pic but later one's seem to be reversed. I have the ATSG 4L60e book and it also shows the accumulator assembled as per 01Thunder's pic. The ATSG book was written in 1993 and apparently wasn't updated to reflect apparent changes made over the years. This was more of a curiosity thing. I always try to figure out crap that doesn't make a difference anyway.
Thanks,
Gene

Hi Guys,
I scanned this diagram out of the 2002 Chevy Silverado Service manual. Here it is: http://www.geocities.com/ggatti/4l60e.jpg
It shows the alternate accumulator assembly.
