I recently picked up and installed one of Accel's new Billetech distributors for the 96-01 L29, L30, and L31 Vortec Gen-1e smallblocks. (454, 305, 350)
It fits very precisely in the block bore. I even gained some idle oil pressure. It has high-RPM bearings and the shaft does not move up and down like the stock ones do. Once installed the rotor only had about one degree of play.
Best of all, this distributor has a .491" shaft instead of the smaller proprietary size that GM used for the Vortec. With a standard shaft size you have a choice of different gear materials from various companies available, including the carbon ultra-poly composite gear from Comp Cams.
It was plug-and-play. I am impressed enough with the quality to share my thoughts here.
Part number 60116 - Vortec 5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4L V8
Part number 60115 - Vortec 4.3L V6

Increased timing precision is the only performance related gain. The other benefits are the standard shaft diameter and the aluminum housing that ends the problem of broken holes for the cap screws.
