Default 99 vs. 2000-up injectors

Would it be worth swapping a set of 2000-up injectors into a 1999 truck. The truck is a Z71 with cold air intake, Magnaflow catback, and Crane/Vinci tuner. The truck Pings its *** off with the tune in it even with 93 octane gas. Would the 2000 injectors (they are here and they are free) be worth swapping in, even if they didn't help the detonation problems?

With a 6.0 swap I'd definitely go with the 00 and up injectors personally...especially since your Vinci/Crane handheld can adjust for them. Honestly, I'd ditch the 99 PCM alltogether and do the ol 02 PCM swap.

OOPS, I should have mentioned, it's not my truck. The truck in question belongs to a friend of mine. My motor came complete.

I'd also suggest just getting an 02 PCM tune, then you could do away with EGR, run the larger injectors, fix the pinging and make more power.

The truck has Magnaflow catback, some kind of open element conical intake, and the Crane Powermaxx tuner. I don't think it's the tuner's fault, as my truck would ping with 87 octane when it was stock. He currently has the 93 tune in it and has been running 93 octane. I think the quality of gas around here has something to do with it as well. I think we're going to try the 87 tune but keep running the 93 octane gas. I do know that the tuner really woke the truck up, seat of the pants wise, we we're both impressed. I have a set of the 2000-up injectors I was going to give him and just wondered if it was worth putting them in.
