99/03 silverado question
ive heard that the new body 99's are slower with the same motor as the 2000 and up i have the 5.3 and was wonderin what the deal was , help me out.my friend has a stock 02 ext cab with a 5.3 and i always get him by 2 trucks off the line but he always ends up creepin up on me at mid and top end and passes me by a half or quater of a truck, and i should have enough mods to smoke him totally, even if my rims and tires are a lil bigger, just curious.

The 00+ got a slightly different cam than the 99 did. When the 02 started coming out it was pretty common to hear comments on several boards that they were slightly faster. than the previous models. I believed this to some extent since I did beat a 00 scsb with hpp3, exhaust and k&n intake when my truck was stock. By the same token I raced a similarly modded 01 Sierra rcsb and we pretty much stayed neck to neck. This was before my nelson tuen and cam.
I also believe the 03's are a little faster then the 02's since I raced my friend's 03 stock 5.3 3.73 rcsb Chevy and we would stay pretty much neck to neck up untill 70 then he would pull on me about a truck lenth. We were both bone stock btw.
From my experience, these truck seem to be getting faster by the year.

Back in the day, when all I had was a K&N Drop-in filter and dual 2 1/4" Glasspacks. I raced my friend's completly stock 2000 ext. cab sierra 5.3 (Don't know for sure what gear ratio) from a stop on this back road (speed limit was 25!). He kept telling me the 2000 models had 15 more horsepower and that he would probably beat me. We both had 1 passenger in each truck and both had half tanks of gas. We were dead even until about 55-60mph, then I started to pull on him pretty good. I think we raced to about around 70-75mph, I had over a truck and half on him. I had been riding around all night and he had drove his for about 10-15min to the spot. This was on one of those hot and humid spring nights here in Louisiana! The weird thing was after I had upgraded to the K&N FIPK, Jet Chip, and 160* thermostat, off the line he would beat me by like 2-3 truck lengths (Due to traction problems). Then when we tried from a 25 and 55mph roll, I could only pull like half a truck on him. I know that his truck was completly stock because it was really his grandma's truck! He would sneek it out all the time!

No, he didn't pull me off the line with my current mods. This is when my only modifications were the 160* thermostat, K&N FIPK, Flowmasters, and JET Chip. His grandma traded-in the truck shortly after that race.
Ever since my CURRENT mods, I haven't lost to any N/A truck that I've raced...so far. Haven't raced a lightning or S/C Harely Davidson yet. Most people around here just put an intake, flowmasters, and programmers on their rides.

Need help! I'm trying to upgrade my intake manifold in my 01 5.3 silvy. Any suggestions? Also i was wondering if the intake manifold from the 4.8/5.3/6.0/ Z06 5.7 are interchangable.
