Default 97 Silverado Exhaust Question

I'm an F-body guy but I've recently acquired a truck. But I don't know which vendors to look to for exhaust. I'm looking at replacing the entire exhaust system (headers to tip). One of the cats is going so I'm particularly interested in an offroad y-pipe. Could you guys point me to the appropriate vendors? Also, do you have any sites that are specifically geared to this year/model truck?

Thanks!

Magnaflow mufflers IMO.

if it is a Z71, then it should have 3.73, if it is only 4x4 then it should have 3.42 gears (unless it was special ordered). best thing to do is break done the VIN#, each number and letter stands for different things on the truck. i would think you would be able to find the chart on the internet somewhere.

I don't mean actual gears. I mean a site that only deals with these model year Chevy trucks. I just want to know what vendors to look up for the exhaust parts I'm needing. So far, I've found none.

Does no one make Y-pipes for these trucks??? I've found catbacks by the truckload. With some work, I've found headers. But I can't find a single y-pipe other than a factory replacement. Even the header manufacturers I've found don't list a y-pipe. Please help!

I haven't seen any y-pipes for the 96-98 Vortec trucks. I'm pretty sure Jeg's makes an ORY for the 88-95 TBI trucks that should fit but it only works with stock manifolds. If you get some lt's you're more than likely going to have to go full custom from header back. You'll have to check fitment on the lt's too; there is one by Hedman and Hooker makes one too.

Your truck has twin cats under it. I would really recommend replacing them with some magnaflow units.

The best setup I have seen and heard so far, is similiar to what I am running. Replace the cats, the cut the y so you can run true duals. Install an x-pipe and true dual exhaust with magnaflow round mufflers, about 14-16" long. The truck will be quiet enough not to get much attention but sound really good, with a healthy sound.

We did it last year to my neighbors 454 truck and it is great. It is very quiet until you hammer down, at that point, we have been heard nearly a mile from the house (There is a valley beside my house sound travels for miles).

Thorley! They make mid-long tri-y headers that includes a mandrel bent y-pipe all the way to the cats. This is what you are looking for.
