Question '86 Silverado seeks LS1

I have an '86 Silverado and I have currently been thinking about putting in an LS1, a 4L60E (or seeing if my current trans. will work), don't know if driveshaft will have to be replaced, and also put in some lower gears. I know that it can be done. I haven't researched everything yet, but if somebody has done it, what should I expect as far as parts to get, and cost?

if you planning on modding the motor much or going fi or nitrous id go ahead and get a 80e or get a built 60e at the least

go with 4.10s in the rear

Its better to have a custom drive shaft because this was what happened to mine bent bed floor, bullet, and a hole in the nitto dr, after the 5.3 swap, TR224, no headers ,no stall and very little tuning

Here a vid of it, it a swap i would do again because there nothing like it even though I lost but not for long, full bolt on 06 with cam and stall.

Ahh... you should research as much as you can. I found it to be a surprise, but there has been a few LS-based swaps in '80s model box-bodies.

1BadC10's V8 Swap

Hope this gives you an idea of some of the work that would go into it. Mind you, engine placement will dictate driveshaft length, A/C compressor moounting, and exhaust placement. So, research as much as possible. Oh yeah... follow nightrunner's advice... spend the dinero to get a built 4L60E or 4L80E. 60s do not last. (see my sig)
