Default 80e is in and running ... FINALLY!!!!

It finally happened. I got everything buttoned up and drive it home. I think the shift points on for this 80e needs to be fine tuned a bit, but I think it will be OK once I get all that done.

It's cruising at about 2500 at 70 now That's a little more than I was wanting, but we will wait and see how it runs. I'm going to have the shift kit installed this week sometime. It needs some help there. I can't even feel it shift. I've been babying it some what since I have to break in the gears and EATON.

The trans apparantly had some old fluid in it, so I think I am going to get the shift kit done soooon and have them replace the fluid and filter when they do it.

SlowProcess, I'm going this week to get the new exhaust put on, so if you wait a little while, I will make you a clip of the Hooker mufflers. I need to do some more tuning to get a little more lope in it though. I went a little high on the idle I think.

I dunno if I would call it the 'cool thing to do'. It was a **** load of work.

BTW .. I will have pics up tomorrow. The camera is out in the truck, but I don't feel like going to get it right now and doing all that. Tomorrow ...

There have been quite a few threads on the 4L80-E lately, as you know. The 80 responds VERY well to programming. If you're not going for a full rebuild try programming up the shift tables for Speed vs. TPS. Give it a little more line pressure. If you cannot feel it shift then it's too low for the amount of power you're making based on throttle position. I suggest keep line pressures close to stock between 0 and 20% and curving it to ramp up as throttle increases. You won't need full line pressure for WOT 1-2 or 2-3, but the 3-4 shift should be max line pressure between about 80 and 100% throttle with a much higher (lower duty cycle) baseline for the OD shift.

I cannot remember what you've had done to this trans so far, too hard to kep track of everyone. If you're setting up a TransGo Shiftkit with the stock Forward, Intermediate, and Direct clutches use the "firm" calibrations when you drill the holes in the separator plate. It you've got exotic high-performance clutches going in for the above-mentioned functions, use "Firm" only for the OD circuit and "average" for the other three. It's important for the valve body to match the capabilities of the clutches for better-balanced performance.

the best bet would be to fine a used HD truck and just swap everything, engine, tranny, driveshaft, and rear end
