Re: 6 liter identification?
I have also thought about doing that swap. But I figured you would have to change the comp.I mean if I do this it will be awhile before i would do it,but since you all are on this subject Please give me some information on this swap.

Re: 6 liter identification?
It is in and running and so far the only check engine light was for the throttle computer that I forgot to plug back up. Runs smooth and fine but no SOTP improvement over the 5.3. I think it MAY have more low end but not sure yet-only been about 20 miles so far. Seems to be idling approx 100rpm lower than the 5.3 I probably won't have much time to drive it till Thursday.

Re: 6 liter identification?
hey, i see you have a whipple, do you have a boost gauge? i am sure you have lost a few lbs of boost and you may even have less power then before the swap. you need to pully back up if you wan't to feel it.
on my truck the stock whipple pully was a
3 5/8" and gave me 6psi of boost
then i went to a 6.0 and had to go with a
3 1/4" to get back to 6psi
than i went to ASM headers and exhaust and lost another lb so now i have a
3 1/8" to stay at 6psi
i bet you are around 3psi right now or less if you never changed it after your exhaust

BigTex- yeah, I had to tell her-I needed help taking off the hood and couldn't find anybody else to help! I had to pay $1450 and its posed to have 30,000 mi.
Parish- My stock pulley was 3 5/8 too and I went to 3 3/8 which put it at 7-7.5lbs then about a month ago I put a 3 1/8 on there and was pushing 9.5lbs with the 5.3 Now the 6.0 is showing right at 6-just like you. Once I get headers and a converter I am going to up the boost back up around 9.
Does your Whipple drop boost at the 1-2 shift point? I called Whipple about that and they told me to unhook a certain vac line on the boost bypass vacuum thingy and then it will hold full boost. What they said was that this is designed into the Whipple computer as their own type of "torque mgt" to help save the tranny. Sure enough about 3 days after I did that mod the tranny started slipping at the 1-2. That is when I did a shift kit and it has been OK since.

i am not sure if mine drops boost or not but that is great info, i will check it out. i don't want to drop any boost.
how did you get away with 9.5lb's of boost? did you ever monitor for knock retard? ever hear any knock? what kind of gas are you running?

Re: 6 liter identification?
Parish8-I had no audible knock with the 9.5lbs 'cause I went to the ear doctor last month and she said I have "considerable hearing loss!"
Seriously, my wife has good ears and she couldn't hear any pinging (and I have made her ride with me enough over the years that she definitely knows what to listen for) Anyways, I knew that I was going to get the 6.0 soon so I bought that 3 1/8 pulley and put it on the 5.3 but I used extra octane (93 pump gas plus torco race fuel concentrate and/or my own octane booster made with xylene and tolulene) while it was on there and I didn't push it hard unless somebody was riding with me that has good ears.
I don't have any way of monitoring for KR but again, me and my stuff are always the exception to the rule-while I was at Superchips' facility getting the dyno tune they had a tech 2 hooked up and there were times when they had it sounding like the classic "shaking up a coffee can full of marbles" description of detonation and it never showed the first sign of KR. They said that was weird and they had never had another vehicle behave like that.

Not that my wife wouldn't help, it that she doesn't quite understand why I have top keep messing with "a perfectly good truck". I just tell her "I'm addicted, Its got me, I Cant stop!".
Anyway, good luck with the project.
