So how do the rods on the LQ4 and LQ9 compare to say the LS1 rods in the camaro's/firebird's?

The LQ4 rods have been tested up to 700 HP by GM, and the LQ9s are beefier, so, they're pretty strong.

LQ4 (6.0) and LQ9 (6.0) are different short blocks. Specifically the pistons change. Flattops (LQ9) vs Dished (LQ4). Also, I understand rods are beefier on the LQ9.

But since the LQ9 didn't come out until '02, I'm not sure that you were considering those years.

I don't know much about the early LQ4's besides they have less desirable heads. That's all I needed to find out to rule them out (I'll be looking for a complete running motor to drop in 1st, then worry about a rebuild once everything runs).

Off by one year, the original factory in my '01 2500hd is a lq9.

RGMEPP, the 6.0 that you have in your truck would be a LQ4. It should also have cast iron heads.

Yep. Better go look again. See if the corner of one of the heads reads 873.

I am pretty sure that if it is an 01 it should be an aluminum head Lq4. I know that it shouldn't be an LQ9 from the factory in that HD.

Depending on when it was built it may be possible it has an LQ9, as I found out when I was trying to get some information on my truck for the paint. The truck is a 2001 but was actually assembled in 2000.
