6.0 mods
#1
My buddy has just bought a 2000 Silverado 2500 with a 6.0. We were looking at the truck and talking about what kinds of mods we can do to it. I have seen where you can cut back the egr return shorter and bypass the engine coolant on camaros and wanted to know if they can be done on the 6.0? He is planning on getting a K&N intake. He also wants to do a cat-back exhaust. What exhaust setup should he go with, and what other mods can we do? Thanks for any help.

as far as the egr and tb bypass...you can do them but they wont show any performance gains. also, as far as the cat back i wouldn't waste the money. just decide what muffler you(he) wants..i would reccomend dynomax bullets. and have one welded into the stock exhaust and dumped or ran out the back however he wants. you can run mid or long tube headers and only have to slightly modify the stock exhaust, also gutting or deleting the cats is an option. the 6.0 has pretty good heads if they are the aluminum ones that some of them come with. a good cam would do that 6.0 good, and the fact that it's a 6.0 it can run a little bigger cam than the 5.3/4.8 but will need computer tunning with a bigger lift cam. for a 6.0 a 218/219 like reallyslowtruck has would probably be a good mild performance cam.
any other questions just post up...the guys here will have some good ideas.

Ya, just putting a catback system in won't do you much good. If you want some good performance gains, get ASM long tube headers (in my opinion the best) to go along with the catback system. I'd go with Flowmaster original 40 series if you want the truck to sounds like a beast. Just the headers alone have shown 22HP and 30lbs of torque(i think) increase on a 5.3. Yes, you will have to modify the exhaust, relocating the 02 sensors and other stuff too. If you are planning on getting a supercharger, wait on the exhaust until then, as you will have to modify the exhaust to get the most out of a supercharger. If not, don't go any bigger than 2.25 inch piping for true dual exhaust, and no bigger than 2.75 inch piping for single outlet.

thanks for the replys guys. I will let my friend know what you told me. If it were me, I would be really into doing several more mods, but he is not going to do much. Just doing intake and exhaust, he mainly whats a louder exhaust. I was just checking to see if there were any other simple mods that could be done. If you guys know if any other simple bolt on mods I would like to know. Thanks

If he really wants to have a sweet setup, go for a UPD intake, ASM headers, and a dual exhaust with Spintech mufflers with an X-pipe or H-pipe. Spintech even makes a catback system using their X-pipe if he is interested

I assume that would depend on the application. But, check out www.mufflex-performance.com They'e got Spintech and Flowmaster exhaust systems on there. And pretty much whatever size piping you can imagine. And when it comes to exhaust, everyone's gonna have a differing opinion, i say go w/ Orig 40 Series Flowmasters if you want that "badass" rumble, but to some, its just a plain sound...
Hope this helps, somewhat
