6.0 - How much can it hold?
#1
At about 11psi, my stock Ls1 destroyed 3 rods and pistons, drivers side head, cracked the block 6" on the passenger side, and put a rod through the drivers side. My question is, how much boost can I run on my new stock 6.0 until I put the aftermarket pistons and rods in it and what compression is it stock? Also, would it be better to run the stock 6.0 intake and TB or use my Ls1 intake and TB? Thanks for the info guys...

the stock 6.0 is 9.4-1 compresion. escalade is 10-1, as far as intakes i have been told that the ls6 is the best followed closely by the truck manifold. the stock ls1 manifold is the worst, i think i would just go with the stock ls1 intake until you can afford a ls6 intake, don't bother trying to make the truck one work.
how much boost, i doubt anyone knows for sure, of course it depends on your tune more than anything but i don't think i would go over the 11psi you all ready have without some internal work.

wow... cracked the block with 11psi? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> thats shitty man! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
the internals of a 6.0L block are going to be the same strength as the ls1 though. I'm pretty sure the only way to consider a 6.0L stronger is with forged internals and the iron block

The LPE TT 427 is running about 14psi thru it (not the regular kit, but the "high performance one") if memory serves me right. I think theres some other guys on here running about 11-15 thru their 6.0s. I would think the stock internals couldn't handle it, but w/ forged internals, and the iron block, it'd be a beast when it comes to boost

parish, not tryin to get nit picky, but i thought the LQ4s was 9.5:1 and the LQ9 was 10.0:1? 9.5 or 9.4, not much of a difference, just thought it was 9.5

i got my info from someone that posted on here just like i did so i cant say for sure but it seems like they cut and pasted their info from a gm website, so i am prety sure it is 9.4, actualy seems like they said 9.41-1.

Correct me if im wrong, but isnt there 3 different 6.0 motors, all put out different amounts of power. 6.0 in the regular chevy/gmc, the the motor that comes in the Denali, and then the Caddy. Am i right? Isnt the only difference the piston, and heads?

the 6.0 that i have came from a 2002 denali so i did some lookinging into that one, from all the info i have the only diference might be a slightly diferent computer tune but it is more than likely exacly the same just rated at a diferent rpm to make it look a little better. the caddy motor has flat tops to give it more compresion, from all reports that is the only diference from all the other 6.0's
