Should be. The stroke on both is 92mm, and the cranks are the same, it's the bore that is different.

Yep, identical down to the bolts on both the 5.3 and 6.0 including the crank.

so if all is the same except bore, i could bore out a 5.3 and put in stock 5.7 pistons and this would be an iron block 5.7?

Yep, the 5.3 and 4.8 have the exact same bore, just different crank/rods.
Randy, you could use the iron 5.3/4.8 to build a nice motor and get into the 11's with a power adder like N2O or forced induction. Like most people are saying, you will have more room to grow with the 6.0L but they are harder to find and more expensive. I am tapped out on displacement with the smaller block at 383ci. There is mucho, mucho torque with the 383 I have and I spent less total on machine work and prep than buying a similar 6.0L motor. In the end tho if you have the money to build/buy the smaller motor you will be close enough for the 6.0L stuff. Maybe a thousand or less difference if you do lots of the assembly yourself.
As the saying goes, no replacement for displacement!
