I was kicking around the idea of building a nice 5.3 and putting it in something.Can you big HP guys give me some advice and info on the 5.3?Does anyone run ported heads LS1/LS6 and a good cam?I'm thinking some of the juice may be in order.What should I look into when building the internals?Do the basic free mods work for the 5.3 also?

Just like the ls1 the rods and pistons are junk...It is basically the same as the ls1...Screw it us an ls1 and get more Cubes...Put a good set of rods and pistons and spray it...

Is this a high revving motor?
How much does the engine weigh fully assembeled?

 

A 5.3 will run great on 100 to 125 shot. Any more and you will experiance what we will refer to as "The Hyde Experiment" <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I do agree, unless you already have the 5.3, I would go with a 5.7 LS1 or 6.0 iron block. It really all depends on where you want to be with it. And no, it won't rev like the LS1's. 6500 tops.

 

I got the camaro w/LS1 but it has low miles and I would like it to last.I drive it on weekends.I got my little beater S10 with its wore out 2.8.I run my car at the track some but want to get something else.I like the idea of the 5.3 iron block something different.I'm looking for a C3 vette maybe a 77 or older.It might be cool to see a vortec motor powering one of those that I can run at the strip.
Is 6500 the rev limiter and can't it be adjusted with hpp3. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
