Default 5.3L Gen IV to LY6?

I have a 5.3 LH6 engine I'm planning to swap for an LY6. So far from what I've been researching it looks pretty straight forward in terms of hardware I just need to re-use my oil pan and either delete the VVT or modify my harness and PCM to control it.

Software wise I believe I can simply have the PCM setup for the new engine with or without the VVT (depending on whether I can fix the hardware to keep it).

Are these assumptions correct? Anyone tried something similar? I have seen a couple of threads on other Gen IV swaps but nothing explicitly on the LH6 application. I'm not married to the LY6 so if there another Gen IV 58x option I'd be eager to hear other options. My main reason for this swap is to abandon the AFM/DOD 5.3 and the LS2 options are out of my desired price range.

Pull it out put it in wham bam thank ya maam. Leave the vvt actuator solenoid unplugged and have the PCM tuned for your new motor rock and roll piece of cake.

Why not just do a dod delete if that's your only reasoning? I'm currently pulling mine to install a cam!

I didn't even realize simply leaving it unplugged was an option, excellent news. Thank you!

Because I'm not sure what else I'll find in need of repair or replacement in the 5.3L and the AFM delete is $700 or more just in parts.

Getting in gear to do this, anyone have a suggestion for a good shop to iron out the ECM?
