Default 5.3 stroker questions

I am thinking about stroking a 5.3, and was wondering if this works. Take the 5.3 block and put an LS1 crank and rods in it? Would there be any clearence problems, or would I need alot of work done to it to make the crank work in the 5.3? What all would I need to do this with, or would I be better off taking it to a machine shop and letting them do it?

Would the stock LS1 crank and rods hold up if I ever decided to spray, or would they be ok with some ARP bolts?

What displacement would that be? Would the compression be too high if I ran the 5.3 heads still? Finally what kind of power does an all motor stroked 5.3 make?

Thanks for any info.

Uhhh.... You will be wasting a lot of time and still end up with a 5.3. 5.3/6.0/and 5.7 cranks are the same stroke (92mm). The bore size is what's different. FYI, stock LS1 cranks and rods have been known to easily handle 600hp at the crank. Most of the stroker kits for the LS1 will work in the 5.3.

i agree with this but if your going for more cubes you might as well stroke a 6.0, there was a complete rebuildable 6.0 for sale recently for $875. you can bore and stroke one of these up to a 7L.

How come I never run across a deal like that ?

What I'm really concerned about is the compression with any of them wether it be with a 5.3, or 6.0. I dont want to have to run some 110 just to drive my ruck to work.

So Parish, how much $$$ wise am I lookig at to go with a stroked 6.0? I know it would make alot of power and be worth it , but I cant ever seem to find a ''good deal'' on a 6.0 short block. O yeah how bigg of a shot do you have going to your 6.0? Is yours internally stock?

I guess what i'm trying to say is that even if I run up on a deal for another 5.3 short block I should just save my $$ and get a 6.0?

A new 6.0L block usually runs about 700 or so, the Lunati 408 Rotating Assembly is under 4,000 Definately if your going to build one do a 408 I think that would be a awesome setup! We also offer the 396 stroker setup that uses a stock crank & iron block so it would be a cheaper option

there are 6.0 for sale often in the clasifides. i watch them and at ls1.com and have seen alot of 2001 or newer complete rebuildable motors go for around $900. just keep your eyes open and one will pop up in no time. that includes the heads and they are worth $300-$400.

i have been pushing 8psi and a 75shot for quite awhile, recently jumped to 9psi and a 75shot, then just last friday pushed it to 9psi and a 100shot, all on a stock 6.0. this is with a close watch on the tune, pleanty of fuel and not a whole lot of timing, good gas when i go ever 6psi. with the right fuel system and a good tune i wouldn't be afraid to spray a 200shot on a stock 6.0.

you have to ask yourself how far you really want to go, just a stock 6.0 with a big shot is going to need a tranny, now stroke it, heads and cam and you may not be able to get a tranny that will take the power. i am about ready to upgrade to a 3/4 ton just to get a tranny that can take the power.

Thank you all for the help and info. I will be looking hard for a 6.0 these next few weeks.

Now another question, I have heard that the allison tranny will fit in a 1/2 ton. How can this be? I didnt even think that the 80 could fit. So if it will can I hook it up to the 6.0, and will it stand the power once it is built?

i wouldn't mess with the allison, the 4l80e could be made to fit but not alot is known about how much work it would be. what are you driving? part of my probably is killer traction and alot of weight, if you are driving a rcsb 2wd i bet a built 4l60e would last alot longer than it did for me, even with slicks.
