Default 5.3 seems to be using oil?

Guys my truck has 41600 miles on it. Whenever my truck gets to the 2500-2800 mile mark on an oil change my "Check Oil Level" signal shows up. I check it but it doesn't seem to be low at all. Maybe a half quart of oil if that. It doesn't smoke, have any knocking that I can hear, I haven't found any foreign objects in the oil, and doesn't leak anywhere. What should I do? Take it somewhere and someone look at it, or should I be worrying about having her rebuilt? Any help and siggestions would be nice.

If the check oil level light comes on, but the oil is in the acceptable range on the dipstick, the sender for the oil level (in the oil pan) may be at fault. As far as oil consumption goes, these GENIII engines are prone to excessive oil consumption through the PCV system. Do a search on "oil catch can", and you should find a wealth of info on what some of us do to combat this problem. There's also a re-designed PCV valve that's supposed to help, but it did very little for me when I tried it on my truck.

While many have oil consumption problems, others do not. I have never lost any oil in 203K miles. I put 6 qts of Mobil 1 in at oil change time and I get about 6 qts out after 5000 miles. Dipstick now shows about 1/4 inch below full at change time. I also tend to beat on my truck semi-regularly but the engine is holding up very well. I would agree on the sender possibly being bad especially if you are only 1/2 qt low.
