I'm thinking about putting a LS6 Cam with some 317 Heads on my 5.3l in my Truck.

Has anyone done this? Any good gains?

This is my DD so I wanted to do something that wasn't too big, but still have some guts to it.

The cam is probably a good idea but the heads aren't. The 317 heads flow better but they a big combustion chamber, on a 5.3 they will drop your compression too much.

Bad Idea all together. There are better cams than the ls6. Like mentioned above the 317 heads will drop your compression, it will put you in the low 8.x:1 or maybe high 7.x:1 compression ratio.

I like the 265xr in a truck better than the Z06 cam. The Z06 cam actually lags behind the stock cam a touch till around 3-4k rpm; although its a pretty nice gain after that rpm point.
