5.3 LS6 cam head swap and supercharger
#1
Hey I have a 2001 silverado rcsb 2wd with a 5.3. Im looking to pull the motor this winter and build it up. I picked up a good used set of ls2 vette heads. I plan to install an ls6 cam and eventually a magnusson super charger. I was wondering what all will need to be done to build this motor up such as what pistons to use, and what type of valves for the heads and such to handle the supercharger. Also is the stock crank good enough. Any feedback would be great. Thanks

Leave it stock and just swap heads, cam, etc. The stock valves and crank are fine, if you plan over 8-10lbs I'd get ls9 head gaskets and arp studs and let it rip
And since you'll have the heads off already, I'd get ls7 lifters/trays and he timing chain, possibly new oil pump depending on mileage

Stock internals and valves are fine. Head studs and better gaskets are a good idea, but not mandatory unless you really plan to push it later on (running stock bolts and gaskets on mine). If you already have the cam, go with it, otherwise, there are some better cams for boost out there if you are going to the trouble of swapping. The GT2-3 is a great cam, and probably worth 10-20rwhp over an LS6 cam, and I was able to pick it up for about $200 shipped off a forum guy, so just keep your eyes peeled.

Motor could use a good overhaul had a hard life, just figured if im rebuiling it forged pistons would be the best way to go from what ive heard. As for the cam, the guy that will be tuning it best reccomended the ls6 cam. How much hp would just gain alone from ls6 heads and ls6 cam?
